Silicon Cloud’s CEO, Dr. Mojy Chian, presented a paper entitled “IoT Design- The Design and Design Platform Implications” at the Management Day of the Design Automation Conference (June 2015, San Francisco). This paper was a collaborative effort with Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). Todayâ€™s emerging chips have different sets of requirements depending on their applications. The design requirements for very high volume IoT chips are very different than the ones for complex networking applications. These can significantly affect the choice of design flow, methodologies, suppliers, while meeting numerous constraints, including export compliance constraints. This session will cover the design challenges of such emerging chips using examples from IoT up to networking chips, and present corresponding management decision criteria that allow managers to make the right choices from a pool of alternate options, while complying with numerous constraints.

Billions of devices connected to the internet is not too far from todayâ€™s reality. Such an Internet of Things offers advanced connectivity between built-in sensors, field operation devices, and cloud systems, covering a variety of applications, including medical, home automation, energy, transportation, environmental monitoring, etc. This results in several new approaches and innovative methods that work together to enable the network of smart devices. Executives in this session discussed the impact of IoT on the semiconductor industry and the new opportunities it may bring in designing todayâ€™s Internet of Things.
